I have a friend looking for a slim camera, they're not very tech savy but wants a good zoom. Just for day to day use. Less than $200 What are your recommendations?

Thank you.

You might look at the HP R817. It has a 5x zoom with a pentax lens and a decently large screen. It takes very good pics and can be had for under $200.

It's a very good camera, but I was keeping within your first request of being slim. I sold a lot of A540s with many people coming back telling how good it was for them.

You're right, the A540 is not slim but sure looks good with good reviews. Since I've been looking at different cameras I'm contemplating whether I made the right choice by buying a Canon S2 for myself. I could have bought a Canon A630 with 8MP cheaper than the S2($279). I might not be using the 12x in the S2 as much as I thought I would. Its not like I'm photographing nature.

Since you mentioned customers, what's your feedback on the Canon A630?

Thanks.

The Canon A-630 has received very good reviews and it does have an articulated LCD. However, you might also look at the A-710 IS which would downgrade the LCD flexibility but give you IS with a 7.2mp imager.

Is IS really important at 4x zoom?

I think most Sony cameras comes with IS where as with canon you have to choose.

In the Sony line of P&S cameras, only the H2, H-5, and the T-series camera have IS. The Sony H-5 has a huge 3" LCD as well as IS but I think that is a bigger camera size that you want.
