Kodi-

The H-2 is 6mp with the smaller LCD, while the H-5 is 7mp with the larger LCD. I do not believe the H-2 is available in black.

I'm not a professional photographer. Is the MP and LCD worth $100?

Kodi-

There are a lot of H-5 users, especially those over on the http://www.dpreview.co Sony forum who feel that having the H-5 was important to them. However, I ended up with a H-5, because there was no H-2's in stock. However, if I were you, Kodi, I would consider using the $US 100.00 saved, for a good case, data cards, and accessories.

Fill me in - what is the memory card problem with the Canon S2? I've had this camera for over a year and have taken at least 3,000 pictures with it with absolutely zero problems. I use both a SanDisk Ultra II 1GB and 2GB card. And yes, the S2 can still be purchased - I've recently seen prices as low as $260. What a bargain!

When I turned on I got a message on the LCD, memory card error. This is using the original 16MB card. Then I bought a SanDisk card, same thing. It reads in a card reader but the first time I couldn't retrieve all the images. This was just in the first week that I bought the S2 and since I could still return it, I thought it would be safer rather than keeping it and be dissapointed later.

If it was just me I'll just probably get a replacement or a another canon camera but this seem to be common problem with the canon cameras. Most of my electronics are sony and so far so good so I thought why not a sony camera.

Hey kodi,

What's up with you? You join this forum, and you post a question:

"Hi, I'm new to the forum and looking for a camera. I've narrowed it down to Canon S2 and Sony Cybershot H5."

OK, people do it all the time - that's why the forum is here. You've done some research and you've narrowed it down to two cameras. But then, you start a rant against one of your own choices - the Canon:

"Browsing the forum I've learnt that lot of S2 users have this memory card error with canons and I really don't want to be in this situation."

"I'm just wondering why does people keep buying the Canons knowing they have this memory card problem and I can't imagine why Canon is not coming up with a solution."

"Yes, S2 is discontinued but S3 seem to have the same roblem. And people are still buying the S2 anyway."

Then you tell us you had already bought a Canon S2.

"This was just in the first week that I bought the S2 and since I could still return it, I thought it would be safer rather than keeping it and be dissapointed later."

Then you say you're going to just get another Canon:

"If it was just me I'll just probably get a replacement or a another canon camera but this seem to be common problem with the canon cameras."

So what was the purpose of your post? To tell us you had a problem with your camera? To excercise the members of this forum for nothing? You didn't hear about a lot of S2 owners having memory card problems did you? You had the problem!

Go stir up some other forum.

I have been looking for a came for a while now and really liked the S2. But I didn't take the step to buy it since I was reading about the problem. Without me knowing my boyfriend bought one since I was talking about the S2 and I learnt about it once he started having the problem. I followed the directions in the forum formatting etc but didn't work. That's when I decided to join the forum.

So yes, he knew there was a problem and yet bought one, hence the question "why would some buy the Canon knowing there's a problem". I was trying to understand why would people take the risk? Maybe there's an additional benefit to owning a canon that people risk about $300 for?

I don't think I need to explain how I got the camera and my relationships to the forum to get advice. Nor do I need to write a life story on a public forum. Doesn't this forum focus on cameras? I guess it would have made a big difference to you if I had used "my boyfriend" instead of "I".

For your information, the S2 is already on its way for a refund and we're both back in the market for a camera, with me looking for the H2/H5.

Many thanks to mtclimber for the advice.

Hey kodi, just my .02, but I would go with the H2. Imo, the extra $100 for the H5 is not good value for 1 extra megapixel and a larger LCD if the image quality is the same.

People probably buy Canon - whether there are problems or not - because of name recognition, and also I think Canon probably has the best top-to-bottom range of cameras you can get. I know several S2/S3 owners online and this is the very first I've heard of a memory card issue.

From the half-dozen or so professional reviews I've read, I believe the Sony H2/H5is as good - or better - than the Canon S3. I say this as a very happy Canon A620 owner and someone who does not like much of Sony's consumer electronics, which tend tobe way overrated (other than their top-of-the-line TV's) and overpriced. But hey, a good camera is a good camera, and I'd say you can't go wrong with either the H2 or H5. Happy shooting!

kodi,

How you came to have in your possession a Canon S2 IS is totally irrelevant. What is relevant is that the day you joined this forum and made your first post, you already had your S2 IS, and had a problem with it. So why did you lie? Why did you pretend to be shopping for a camera that you already owned?

"Since both seem to have problems I would like your opinion in picking one."

"Max $400(I see the S2 at $279 and H5 at $389)"

"I followed the directions in the forum formatting etc but didn't work. That's when I decided to join the forum. "

You already had the cam.

"I guess it would have made a big difference to you if I had used "my boyfriend" instead of "I".

What would have made a difference is if you had just been honest...'I just got a camera and I'm having a problem with it...should I get a different camera?'

And now you're shopping for another camera...

"For your information, the S2 is already on its way for a refund and we're both back in the market for a camera, with me looking for the H2/H5."

I bet you've already bought the H5.

You don't have to thank me for my advice.

rinniethehun,
You can go on rambling as much as you like. I don't have to justify myself to you. My boyfriend having a camera does not mean I have a camera. I have two friends with canons does it mean I own them too? I wish!! Maybe in your part of the world.

I guess you only post when you think you can stir up something. You had no advice what so ever on this post other than to put up a fight.

Everyones entitled to their own opinion.
