Dear Friends!

I am looking to buy a Camera, with my initial research i found nikon's p3 pretty much impressive and is upto my Allocated budget.

I was wondering if some one can tell me which are the Models of SONY and Canon with in the same price range and which compete p3

And one thing which is worrying me is absence of ViewFinder in Nikon, i am beginner level camera user.. So does this thing make any differnece??? Apparently Sony Provices view finder in all models.

Best Regards,

Asad.

Hi Asad,

Is there a particular feature of the P3 that is attracting you - is it the WiFi? What kinds of photography do you anticipate engaging in?

If you are not looking for a camera with WiFi, the Canon A710IS deserves your consideration.

Chris

hiya!

ummm no WiFi is not the feature i am looking for in particular. I will be just capturing moments of any gathering and outings.. And Looking for a Camera which i can also use to make Videos.

Well i am not much interested in canon, morevoer this uses AA batteries.. Which i think is not good idea.. I will go for cameras with rechargable proparitary batteries.

I am Interested in Either SONY or NIKON ... So which one is better choice .. Nikon' p3 or Cyber-shot DSC-W70 and W100????

Why do you not like AAs ?

A good set of 2700 mAh rechargeables will give you over 300 shots plus are easily available anywhere on the planet and of course can be replaced with standard alkaline AAs in an emergency.

Try replacing a Proprietary battery quickly if you forget to charge it or lose it...

And if you are worried about the high discharge of Nimh batteries when not in use then you can buy Eneloops or similar, they keep up to something like 80% of their charge over a year of non use.

I also prefer proprietery lithium batteries. Especially in a compact.

Hi Asad

Very impressed with the Sony W100 which was purshased here in Townsville for AUD$499,the advantage over the W70 is the W100 has the1/8 sensor which is larger than the 1/2.5" used in the W70.

Very nice images at ISO 400 and is ok with ISO 800 if you use a touch of noise reduction in post processing using 'Noise Ninja' or 'Noiseware' also has up to 30 sec for long exposures in manual.

Hope this helps

Hi again Asad,

I understand that proprietary lithium batteries often last longer than standard AA batteries, but you can also purchase rechargeable AA batteries that do a wonderful job. And, if you are on a trip and your batteries run out of juice, almost any store will carry AA, but not proprietary batteries.

According to DCResource.com, the Nikon P3 is rated for 200 shots with it's battery, while the Canon A710IS is rated for 360 with 2 rechargeable AA batteries.

Of the cameras you listed, I feel the Canon A710IS is the best. Like the Nikon P3 - and unlike the Sony W100 - it has Image Stabilization.

I have to admit I have been unimpressed with the performance of several different Nikon Coolpix cameras I have used. Focus, shot-to-shot speed and shutter lag have all been very poor compared to the assortment of Canon, Sony and Kodak cameras I have experience with.

I have read on line several instances of Sony W-series cameras having focusing issues. I haven't used one myself.

All 3 cameras you have listed are pretty good, so I think the factor that will most determine hwo good your photos come out will be your own ability.
