Hi everyone -

I need help in deciding what camera to get. I have a best buy guft card and want to get a small point-n-shoot camera for trips/vacations, etc...
I have narrowed my search to the following:

Canon SD600
Canon SD630
Sony W55
Sony W100
Panasonic Lumix FX01
Panasonic Lumix FX07

The W55 and FX01 are both the same price whereas the rest increase in price with the W100, FX07, SD630 being the highest.

So which brand and model do you recommend?

Thanks

Jeff

jeff-

The reason the W-100 is more expensive is because it uses a larger imager than any of the other cameras. If you do a lot of low light level shooting that W-100 imager becomes important to you because it will dispay less noise at the Sony W-100's high ISO settings. notice that the W-100 has higher ISO settings than the W-55. That is because of the W-100's larger imager.

If the choice were mine to make, I would opt for the W-100, if the lack of IS was not a deal breaker for you.

Hi Jeff

The Sony W100 is a fine cam and very good in low light at ISO 400 and ISO 800 using one of the noise reduction programs available.

As Sarah pointed out the W100 does not have image stabilisation, but wait another 24 hours for an imminent Sony announcement, whereas if a leak is confirmed there will be a W200 and W90 both with IS, the W200using a whopping 12 megapixel sensor and the W90 using the same 8.1 as in the W100, both these cameras will have ISO3200 although a clean ISO 800 would be fine by me and ISO 1600 using a noise reduction program.

I would suggest the Canon SD630. I have purchased one of these for myself as well as selling to family members who all really enjoy the compact size and ease of use.

Thanks everyone -

I have after checking them out decided to go with either of the two:

Sony W55
Panasonic Lumix FX01

Which of these two would be better? I don't think i need the iso modes as i usually just use auto mode.

Thanks again
