hi chaps, sorry in advance for this stupid question, but i have no clue really.

ok, im after a new digi camera.,but im on a budget, £100 max.

so looking for the best camera possible for that price, features is not really a worry, more PQ rather.

thing is thats confusing me, is reading about megapixel myth, so not sure which to go for.

i have narrowed it down to a few.

fuji finepix A400, A500, A600 or A700 all under £100

kodakC533

samsung s500 or s700

or maybe another suggestion on a good camera.

many thx

Go to a camera shop and try and handle a few,you get to feel which one you like,it will change preson to person, if you are just printing 6by 4 prints anything around 5Mg will be ok you can go up to 8 by 10 O.K..the big 10 + Mg pixel cams are for A4 prints and a bit above + bieng able to crop...the main thing I found with lower priced cams is the shutter lag..( the time it takes from pressing the shutter and the camera actually taking the pic,I have an old (2 years) samsung that takes 3seconds,,,frustrating ,so thats a major thing I check...have a feel of them and make you,re choice..sorry I couldn,t be more help....

alan,

As long as you're looking at the Fuji line, consider the F20. It's a much better camera than the others you've listed. It has superior low light capabilities, a larger, higher resolution LCD, a more powerful flash and a much better video mode. I don 't know what it sells for where you live, but in the states, you can pick one up for around $150, which would be in your price range.

I bought my son a C533 for Christmas and he seems well pleased. The results I've seen so far look pretty good. The only glitch that we've encountered occurred when we were at an auto show. His flash pictures were completely under exposed but I can't prove that he didn't have his finger in front of the flash. We switched the flash offand the camera produced very good pictures with the just the available exhibition hall lighting.

I agree with the Hun

I currently using Fuji F31 for around 4 months now, and I love this camera.
If budget is your constrain, I guess best option go for F20.

Just my 2 cents

Check out the Entry Level Section of our Best Cameras List

The models in this list are deemed to be a good value within their market niche and the Entry Level Category is where you'll find models priced at about what you want to spend.

Make sure to read the review conclusion section (last page before the sample images in each camera's review) for models you consider. That will let you see how they do in areas like startup time, autofocus speed and reliability, cycle time between images, image quality with and without flash and more. Here are links to the reviews of cameras in this category:

Fuji Finepix A700

Canon Powershot A460

Olympus FE-180 Zoom

Nikon Coolpix L4

Kodak Easyshare C533
