After MUCH deliberation and research I've all but decided on the following:

Canon XTi-Black of course

Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 DC Macro

Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 Super Macro APO

About $1150 all told

I used an (OLD) Nikon FG for many years before switching to all digital P&S for the past 5 years so I'm fairly proficient in SLRs.

Everything I've read leads me to believe this is a combo that will serve me well for quite some time. I guess I'm looking for validation from others. Thanks in advance!

Mike

dequardo,

Very good, I like that package, you have the same taste as mine. You'll havealot of fun with the low budget Sigma lenses, especiall the APO 70-300mm, go for the action shots where the focus system of the XTI give surprises after surprises. I'm using theToys-R-UsSigma70-300mmnon-APO.

I suggest your next thing on the list is the battery grip, Canon BG-E3 to see the best of the XTI with a long zoom, the grip will protect your camera bottom from scratches, the XTI gives you that option to expand your shooting capability with lithium or rechageable AA batteries.

At first you think this guy is standing on water but he's not, he'sabout to take off with all his strenght to chase a swan coming toward his territory, you can see the water is dripping down from his tail.
