I'm searching online dealers for a Nikon D80 body. Most are in the $700 price range. However, there are two dealers who are offering them for $300. They claim new with all factory accessories, etc. Does anyone know what the catch is on these "too cheap to be true" cameras???

Yes you should believe yourself that they are too good to be true. Read this thread:

As far as I know few dealers bring their stuff from Grey Market, where would be somewhere outside of thecountry. The disadvantage to that would be the gurantee of them. Most of the manufacturer accept it within the country where the camera was sold. Although few offer the worldwide gurantee, but then you have to pay higher prices.

Alot of them have some sort of scam running. They may ending up having you call them to confirm your order. Here they will try and bait and switch or simply overcharging for accessores. Some state that if they didn't want any accessories, the item they was ordering is suddenly out of stock. There are alot of stories out there.

www.resellerratings.com is a good place to start.

Most reputable online camera stores (I have been told):

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/
http://www.adorama.com/

One other can't remember

These 2 I would consider too. I haven't heard anything bad about them and their prices aren't 'too good to be true'.

There really isn't a 'catch'...they will sell you the D80 body for $300...provided you call in to 'verify' your order, then give in to their high pressure sales pitch and buy a memory card, a case, a spare battery and a lens cleaning kit (worth about $75) for $600 more. If you do, then you will have paid over $800 for your camera - not so cheap, right? If you don't, then they will cancel your order. However, they may just forget to tell you that they already banged your credit card for the $300 + shipping + insurance + tax + handling fee. You'll never see the camera, but you'll get the bill.

It's not just digital cameras...it's anything you want to buy. 'Too good to be true' prices are never true.
