I will not consider any brands other than Canon for compact (or any kind) cameras. I think they make the best cameras. Ok, that is not the issue but I am just saying so people don't post "Why Canon, get this instead" posts

I want the IS, wide-angle, face-dedection & 4x optical zoom and of course compact.

I know Canon has some cameras with these feautures but anybody knows if they are coming with a new model in the next few months or so? Thanks.

Well, you've certainly hurt the feelings of everyone in this forum who don't use a Canon. And that's quite a few people. LOL!

Perhaps you should check out their website for future models. I'm not sure that a Canon model exists right now with all the features that you've mentioned. To date, I haven't seen a Canon compact camera with face detection or wide angle. I could be wrong though.

Basically, canon claims their new digic III processing chip has th ability to identify faces in a photo and thus select a focus point over a face as well as set exposure/flash based upon that point. Here is their exact quote:
Quote:
With DIGIC III, you get images of superior quality, the camera functions at top efficiency and battery life is significantly enhanced. What's more, DIGIC III enables Canon's newly improved Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the PowerShot TX1 automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. To keep every face looking bright and natural - without scary red eyes - the camera controls exposure settings and flash, so every shot is just what you were shooting for
So the canon digicams with the Digic III chip supposedly have this capability. I think other manufactures are trying to do the same thing (no idea how well it works in canon or anywhere else).

Right now I believe the SD750, SD1000 and TX1 all have the feature. It's anyone's guess when Canon will release more cameras. Also anyone's guess whether the feature will get pushed down to the more compact models.

The SD800IS has a wide angle, IS and digic III processor with face detection.

I believe there were some complaints early on about corner softness wih the lens, so some people still prefered the SD700IS, without the wide angel for that reason. Overall, I believe it got very good reviews though.
