for 300+

1. 12-18 Zoom
2. Viewfinder as well as screen
3. Hopefully 7mg's or better
4. AA batteries
5. Image Stabalization
6. Great Macro
7. Durable
8. Friendly user and feels good in your hands.
9. I don't understand RAW, but many want it so that may be an added bonus.

I asked this question a couple of weeks ago. MY mother passed away so I am trying to keep my mind off things by getting involved in photograply. I have added a coupld of things. Some cameras were mentioned, but they didn't have every one of the requirements listed above. Maybe I am just dreaming. Thanks for any help. - gle

Hi, sorry to hear about your Ma  From what you have said I would say the Canon S3IS or the Fuji s6000 would be best, both are in Steve's best camera section. You may want to consider a few of the lower end dSLRs too, they can be had for about $400 from what others have said.

The closest matches:

The SP-550 has most everything on your list but isn't very fast.
The S3IS has everything but no RAW mode.
The S6000fd has no IS and isn't fast either, but is still worth a look, as is the Fuji S9100.
The Kodak Z612 has no RAw and takes a Li-ion battery, but is a good value.

I personally like the Fujis.
