I'm in the market for a Mega zoom camera (12x - 18x). The reason for this is that I want better quality than a regular p&s camera, but can't afford a dslr.

In your opinion(s), which one do you prefer, when looking at these key aspects:

-overall image quality
-low/no light shooting
-sports/concert shooting

Or maybe an even better question would be, what do you think the best camera is (based on those aspects) for under $550US. Regardless of camera type.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I should also mention that I am interested in the Sony H9. Any thoughts on that?

IMHO I don't think you can get the best Mega Zoom for the price you have listed. The Leica V-Lux 1, 10.0 Megapixel, 12x Optical is at the top of the list. Priced at $849.00 but I believe that it meets all three of your criteria. JMHO though.

The Fuji S6000fd and S9100 might be worth a look. They don't quite have the zoom reach you're looking for at 'only' 10.7Xbut exchange that fora better than average wide-angle setting. Both these cameras aregood low-lightperformers and retail for less than your price limit, much less in the case of the S6000fd. They share an excellent f2.8-4.9 28-300mm manual zoom lens which should more than suffice for your purposes. Lack of Optical IS could be a limiting factor for some, though.
