Greetings. Any comments or thoughts on which camera to buy amongst these two?

I was all set to get the A630 (I've owned a Canon digital elph) for the rotating screen, 8mp, and shooting modes (aperture priority, etc), when a salesman said that if I wanted a more 'serious' camera, than I should get the S3 IS.

It's about $100 than the A630, and is only 6mp, but supposedly has a better lens and 12X optical zoom, smaller screen.

Any thoughts about these two cameras, or others in their price range? I want more control than my digital elph which only has AE.

Thanks!

The S3 with its huge zoom range and many features is certainly the more versatile camera. On the other hand, the A630 has a larger 1/1.8" CCD compared with the 1/2.5" CCD of the S3. Thus as long as you can avoid shake, the IQ of the A630 is clearly better. Also the A630 is more compact than the S3. You might also consider the A710, which is somewhere in the middle between the A630 and the S3.
