Hi!

I bought a Ixus 55 last year, and I'm not happy at all.

Pics aren't sharp on distances and without flash, and the zoom is far to small.
So, I'm planning to buy something new...can you help me get a good camera now?

Here's whatI'd like...

- 5 MP or more
- 6x Zoom or more
- SD-Card
- image stabilisation

I'm not sure if I want one of those "big" "pro" cams...are there smaller ones that are good too?
I really hope someone can help me! Thx

Nies-

An economical suggestion. You might want to take a look at either the Sony W-55 (3X optical zoom) less than $(US) 200.00. Or, perhaps the New Fuji S-700, (about $(US) 215.00 in the USA) it is known as the Fuji S-5700 in other parts of the world. It is one of the smallest of the ultrazoom cameras. It has 10X optical zoom, usesEITHER the SD and XD chips, has ISO capabilities up to ISO 800 and the sample photos look rather impressive.

I have attached a W-55 sample photo taken handheld, indoors, without flash.

Thx a lot for your advice!
I looked at the cameras.

The Sony W-55 seems to be good, but i wanted more zoom...the Fuji S-700 otherwise seems really good, but are there smaller ones as good as this one?

Do you know about the Kodak V610, Ricoh Capiloh R6, Powershot A710 IS
or some of the Panasonic Lumix ones?

Thx!

I took a look again...

right now I'm thinking about the Powershot A710 IS which seems to be really good to me.

But I'm not sure because it has just 6x zoom.
The panasonic ones have 10x zoom and are smaller...Fuji too.

Waht do you think about the A710?

Nies-

The Canon A-710IS is a good choice. However, it is only 6X optical zoom. The Panasonic TZ-3 and FZ-8 are not bad but the have a noise problem at ISO settings above 200 ISO. If you wanted to go with Kodak take a look at the Z-612 (Steve gave it a great review) not the unstabilized V-610, which has not been a standout performer.

The 710 is a fine camera, no doubt

But I hope you understand that a flash is useless past 15 feet for so. Dark, or night shots require a tripod (or solid surface to rest on) and time exposure. For example, these shots are from a IXUS v3, a 3.2MP camera that came out 3 years before the IXUS 55. Learn how to do night shots before writing the IXUS 55 off. The first was actually handheld, but very lucky to get.

Hmm...do you know any other camera which is more compact (like the 710is) but has more Zoom?

Normally i'd go for the panasonic, but I think the picture quality is not that good?

I cannot believe these pics were taken with an ixus! but well, i don't always want to use a triangle, esp not on holiday...
