My daughter who is 20 wants to get a digital camera for under $ 150 US dollars. She wants excellent quality pictures, simplicity of use, zoom capability. It also has to be able to function with a Vista computer.

At this price point she is probably looking at a point and shoot.

We bought our son a Canon A530 (I think that's the model) and it seems to be ok.

Any ideas...she is not stuck on any brand..any big name brand like Nikon, Canon, Pentax , Panasonic, etc.

lesmore-

How about the Olympus FE-180. It is on Steve's Best Beginner Cameras List. It is selling on the internet for about $(US) 140.00.

Never thought about the Olympus. I'll check that one out. Thanks.

I had an expensive Olympus digital camera some time ago. I absolutely hated it. I'd look it up at a store and definitely give it a thorough trial before buying, or buy it somewhere without a restocking fee so you can take it back if you want.

Harmonica-

I have personall used the Olympus FE-180 camera and was very impressed with it. I am a Digital Camera Instructor so I understand camera quite well.

If you had an unfortunate experience a an Olympus Camera years ago, I am sorry to hear that. However, I assure in the strongest terms that this Olympus FE-180 is a very capable camera, and it is ideal camera for a beginners. You might even consider it for yourself. I was able to purchase it for less than $(US) 80.00 delivered.

Perhaps a Kodak C875 would fit the bill - rich color, lotsa scene modes, and a neat "auto" scene mode feature that automatically selects the appropriate scene mode based on what the camera can"see". I had the C875 for a while and like it pretty well. It also takes decent ISO 400 snapshots.

The Sony W50/55 has also impressed me with good "Auto" picture quality, and is thinner and more stylish than the Kodak. I bought the W55 for my sister-in-law a few months ago as a wedding present for $150 on sale.

Virtually every digicam will function with Vista.

For anyone who was wondering what the photos from the Olympus FE-180 that a student in our class purchased for $80 delivered, here are some sample photos. They actually look pretty darned good. I think it was a bargain purchase!

Very sharp pix for a point and shooter. Couldn't find any Olympus 180's , so I bought a Canon A550. My daughter is happy with the Canon, but thanks for the advice.

I think all of us figured the Canon A550 would be more than $150... it's a fine camera for that price.
