Certainly, the highly regarded Sony W-55 is worth some consideration. It is pleasingly small and very capable. Here is a photo sample from the W-55 camera for your reference. This photo was taken handheld without flash inside.

Thank you.
What can you tell me about noise when I use high ISO and low light?
Macro is OK?

The macro mode is excellent, and while the ISO settings on the Sony W-55 go up to ISO 1000, I have found it best to limit the ISO to an ISO 800 setting, and then to process the photo with anti-noise software such as Neat Image. Here is an example taken in my doctor's office at ISO 800.

Hi Sarah: what about the Canon G-7. Is is also compact and at the similar price range and hardy, which is useful if you travel around a lot. how does it compare with the one you suggest?

Mtgoat-

I just checked with www.pricegrabber.com and the Canon G-7 is priced at right around $(US) 500.00. The Sony W-55 is selling for $(US) 200.00. How does that make them about the same price?

Sorry Sarah, I should have been clearer. By similar price range I meant the $600 price that was intially stated by clodvasile, not the one that you recommended.I meant since G-7 is within coldvasile'sbudget stated and has good reviews, isn't a goodoption to suggest
