in DP reviewconclusion they ratedthe H9 with the S3

but with the updated S5 i would like to know if the S5 would be a better buy,

we really need for you to expound on your photographic needs... what kinds of photos?

Right now, I don't think many folks would consider the Sony H9 and Canon S5 as the best cameras in their class.

it feels and looks like a slr / kinda acts like one

You might take a look at the Sony H-5, as it does not have that overly agressive noise reduction firmware that seems on ocassion to smear and eliminate detail so much

All I was saying is that the Sony H-5 does not have that noise reduction firmware that is on the H-9 model, that was noted in the www.dpreview.com review of the Sony H-9. There will probably be fewer problems with detail smearing in the Sony H-5.
