Mr. Bear-

Alkaline batteries are really not suitable for a digital camera because they last such a short time. Nickel metal hydride batteries perform much better in a digital camera. In a four battery configuration, use nickel metal hydride batteries rated at 2100 amphere hours or greater.

The shot to shot times on the S-700 are slow. Without the use of flash, it takes 2.3 second to store the photo just taken. When using flash the shot to shot times drop to 5.3 seconds, due to the added time needed to charge the camera's built-in flash.

I wonder why Camera manufactures keep making cameras with two instead of four batteries.
Because people want smaller/lighter cameras. I hate long recycle times, too.

That would be me....

I opted for the A710 over the A640 and S3, specifically for its smaller/lighter carry in a AA camera. Let's not forget that you should always carry spare batts and two is easier than four. I don't know about you, but I carry my camera 99% of the time and shoot 1% of the time and shoot flash 0.05% of the time and shoot back-to-back flash (within 5 secs) about 0.01% of the time.

So for me, 99.99% of the time, two batts is definitely better than four.
