The cameras have different strengths and weaknesses. What's important to you? What kind of photos do you plan on taking?

If you will do lots of lowlight shots - outside after sunset, or indoors without flash, take the Fuji. If you will do lots of outdoor daylight shots, maybe the FZ8, with its slighly longer zoom and wider apertures at full zoom, is the better choice.

Thanks for the quick responce... i will be taking a mixture of indoor outdoor pics... i do like the idea of the slightly longer zoom on the fz8 and this camera also takes sd cards but i like the zoom ring on the fuji... i am a amature photographer who wants to get better would this make the choice any easier...

You can become a better photographer with either of these cameras. It would help people to make suggestiions if you could be more specific than "a mixture of indoor outdoor pics" Which do think you will do more? How much can you spend? What digital cameras have you used recently?

The Panasonic has decent picture quality at ISO's 200 and under. The Fuji has decent picture quality at ISO 800 and ok picture quality at ISO 1600 (for smaller prints).

I like pro baseball. For daytime games, I would pick the Panasonic. For night time games, I would pick the Fuji. The Fuji also has a wider wide angle (28mm), which is good for group portraits and landscapes.
