Do you make large prints? I think that would be the primary reason the consider the SD850 over the SD700. They are nearly identical except the 850 has 2Mp more pixels packed into a little 1/2.5 sensor.

I think I would opt for the 850 because I have a wide format printer and like large prints for the wall. But the SD700 is probably the slightly better camera if you don't need the extra pixels. It has good noise through ISO 400 and even though ISO 800 is noisy there isn't a lot of in-camera noise reduction the smear the image. I prefer that because I can do a lot better job with a plug-in than a shotgun approach in a camera.

I haven't seen a good review that shows noise at various ISO on the SD850. My guess is that it won't be quite as good as the 700 because of the pixel density. I'm obviously not on the Mp race bandwagon, but within a given time period you usually pick up noise with more density. Steve has a nice review of the SD850 but he doesn't include shots to compare ISO performance.

The SD850 has a little nicer LCD screen resolution but the SD700 isn't bad.

Thanks for your opinion.
