Drama Queen-

For me it would be the Canon A-570IS, it has an optical viewfinder which I much prefer, which the SD does not. In addition the A-570IS has received great reviews and can be purchased for a lot less money. The canon A-570IS is selling on the internet for around $190, and it is an excellent performer. Here is a photo sample. It was taken indoors without flash.

The SD850 has a viewfinder as well....They both have a 4x optical zoom as well...I'd personally prefer the SD850 just for the size and batteries. If you'd prefer AAs or plan to purchase a solution (NiMh, eneloops etc) then the A570 is fine. Me personally, I'd prefer a camera with a Li-Ion battery. Just my preference tho'. I also like the scroll wheel the A570 has and I like the grip of it better as well. Both are excellent cameras IMO

If you want to put it in your jeans pocket get the SD. If you carry a large purse the A570 might be the better choice. If you plan on shooting in program or auto I think the picture quality will be about the same. If you think you might want to mess with manual controls the A570 has them and the SD doesn't. The A570 is considerably cheaper with equal quality if you don't have a size preference.

As DIGuy points out you will have to get a charger and NiMH batteries for the A570. I think Walmart has a charger and 4 NiMH batteries for $13 and you can find similar prices online. So it isn't a big expense. If you want the Sanyo Eneloop batteries he mentioned and a good charger it will cost more. But I think inexpensive 2300 mAh batteries and a charger will do fine in that camera. The pricier Eneloops are only 2000 mAh but don't have a high self-discharge.

Thank you, DIGuy and Slipe. I'm considering all opinions. It's so difficult to choose. I wonder if Canon will releaseA-6XX with IS anytime soon.

drama queen-

Now let's be real. In the last three years Canon has chosen NOT to add IS to the A-600 series cameras. Conclusion: Get, read Get the A-570 IS camera. It is a really great camera. You can wait. That is true. However, Canon has made the decision to add IS to the A series 500 series cameras, but NOT the A-600 series cameras. Why you might ask?

Because the have an articulated LCD feature. yes, an added feature

Please, won't you make a personal choice.
