Hi, please help me choose a camera. This will be my first digital. I will appreciate your help. I need a camera for general photography, nothing in particular.

Which one do you think is the best with these specs?

I'll tell you what I want (minimum):

6 megapixels

3x optical zoom

2,5' lcd

Short shutter lag

AA or AAA batteries

Video 640 x 480 @ 30 fps with sound

Price around $ 200. May be the Canon Powershot A560 or the A570 IS ?

If you have any recommendation, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

So many of the known brand cameras are all so close, I believe it's all a matter of personal choice and perhaps what brand you had good luck with in a film version.

I havea Fuji with 6.1 megapixels, a Fuji with 2.1 megapixels, a Casio with 8. megapixels and a Olympus (waterproof) with 7. megapixels. I mostly use the Casio as it is very fast, very small, and huge display. All personal preference.

Good luck. Check out the compare and buy and see some of the reviews there.

For Stagefer-

You did not state your camera budget, but it would probably most helpful to take a good look at the Canon S-3IS which is selling for around $(US) 285.00 or if you prefer less optical zoom take a good lok at th Canon A-570IS, that is very, very impressive at 4X optical zoom. here is a no flash, existinglight photo taken with the Canon A-570IS camera.

Thanks for answering !The budget will be around $200, but if there is a BIG difference I could spend up to $260 more or less.

By now, I'm thinking in the Canon A560, Canon A570IS, Fuji S700, liked the Kodak Z712IS except for the batteries (too expensive to have 2 or 3 rechargeable sets)

Which one would you choose between the A570IS and the S700 ?

Thanks again, from Argentina !

Many times I have been to BA and Argentina as a country. In view of your reduced budget, I would sincerely suggest that you seriously consider the Canon A-570IS due to its much lower price here in the USA, It is a very capable camera, and it will give you very good service.

OK, thanks. I'll go for the Canon. Now I need to decide if I will spend the extra $40 between the A560 and the A570is for the Image Stabilization, since I don't care too much for manual modes.

But I'll open a new thread for that.

I personally believe that spending the extra mony to get the Canon A-570 IS would be money very well spent. The A-570IS is really a bargain for what it provides.

Fujifilm F30 - you can buy them refurbed for $175 and at ISO 800 it blows every other non DSLR away.
