Hi Taeko,
Don't forget, I don't own this camera, but looking at the spec it should do all right for shooting gels. The minimum focusing distance in Macro mode is 10cm which is fine for your purposes. In Super Macro mode it's 0cm :shock:. The distortions will be probably quite strong, but this can be corrected in post processing. With 0cm focus distance you can shoot individual pockets of your gels life size :-), because you will be using transmitted light, lighting shouldn't be a problem at this distance, just don't push the front element of the lens into gels - it won't be fun to clean it afterwards :-)

Thank you so much! I'm relatively new to the camera world, so all the specs didn't mean much to me. Hopefully they will soon. But thank you again. Your advice has been invaluable.
