Well, you can get a camera that can do everything adequately, or you can get a camera that can do everything well.

How much money do you have to spend?

I want something that can do everything adequately and something that can do everything well.

Budget is not an issue.

However I am new to photography never have used a digital camera before.

Auto,
Go to Officemax to buy a Sony DSC-H2 for $200. It has a 12X zoom lens, powerful bulit-in flash, anti-shake, rechargeable AA batteries and charger. This 6 mega pixel camera is highly regarded by many test sites including this one. It's worth taking a look!
Don't Sony's have memory sticks? On the batteries I think you have to buy Sony batteries?
