This is my first post. I am considering the same. The big decisions between the A650is and G9 to me are the following.

1. AAs (A650is) vs propietary (G9).
2. RAW capabilities (G9).
3. Hot shoe (G9), opens up another world of possibilities.
4. 640x480 30fps (Both) 1024x768 15fps (G9) movies. 15fps will be choppy.
5. Plastic (A650is-plastic not as nice as older models) vs metal (G9-raves).
6. Flip LCD (A650is) vs 3" fixed (G9).

I hate proprietary batteries, but will probably choose the G9 for RAW and hotshoe. I have not used slave flash since flashbulb days, so do not know how they work on P&S cameras.

The G9 should be on the leading edge of technology, approaching film resolution, that I can use the next few years without going obsolete quickly (?). Lens barrel has been a concern at wide angle, but I think I can live with it. One always has tradeoffs.
