JD-

Both are good cameras. The SD-850IS has a 28mm wide angle, I believe the G-9starts at 36mm. The G-9 has a RAW format and a hotshoe for an external flash, the SD-850IS does not. Both cameras have IS.

If the idea is to grow in your knowledge of photography, then the G-9 should be your choice as it will last you for a longer time. Personally I would select the G-9, as it has more useful features and it has received great reviews.

What about image quality between the two? Right now i have a SD600 and have alot of problems with blurred pictures. That is the main reason i am looking for something with image stabilization. How do the two cameras compare in lower light and overall image quality?

The G-9 will easily have the better image quality. As both cameras have IS blurred photos should not be a problem. One note, it is easier to hold the G-9 still due to its larger size and better grip.

As I noted before,. I would choose the G-9 myself.
