I'm looking for a camera that's going to come in around $300 or less. I'll be using it for basic general-purpose shooting but would like to have easy access to control shutter and aperture and do basic exposure bracketing. Just enough to tide me over until I upgrade to a full dSLR in the next year or two. Shutter lag is my biggest pet peeve with digital cams so that's near the top of my priority list. Image stability would be great, as would a strong flash for indoor shots. Video capabilities are at the bottom of my priority list, so hopefully that will take some of the constraints off the decision. I'm looking at the later Powershot "A" models, but they're listed at over 1/2 second shutter lag. Is that the best I'm going to find in this range? The Canon S5 looks promising, although it's a bit above my price range. Any other brands/models I should consider? Thanks.

Kodak? I think my opinions are tainted from the early days (I had a DX6440) and the proprietary EasyShare drivers they used. (I assume/HOPE that's no longer the case). But that review is pretty impressive and it seem the Z812 has a lot of bang for the buck, at least on the surface. I hope Steve's get a review up soon!
