Help! I've looked far and wide and I'm probably missing one but does.
I've seen the SamsungL77 that supposedly turns audio off while zooming but I wanted one that also takes AA batts. I've read the Canon A720/620 IS and they look promising but I haven't found any info on video capture (640x480x30fps) while zooming.

I know most manufacturers will let you do it if audio is off. This really seems like it should be a SW option.

Thanks

I'm guessing you mean the A720/650 IS. I believe they can digitally zoom, but not optically. Don't hold me to it though, I don't really know.
I believe the Fujifilm S700 can optically zoom while shooting, I'm not sure though.

thanks for the suggestions(digicamude). Actually I was hoping to get some input from our all knowing moderators here (Steve, Jim). Seems like zooming during movie capture would be standard. Or is there someplace I'm not seeing that spec in your reviews?
thx,

check out the casio v7 or v8. It allows you to optically zoom 7x while shooting vids. The best part about it is the lense is internal so no sound from zooming will be capture.

most cameras don't zoom while shooting video. here are two that do:

canon powershot s5-is
kodak easyshare z712

also cameras like the fuji S9100 and S6000fd that have a mechanical zoom allow you to zoom while you shoot video.

If you are looking for a real hybrid video/stills camera it might be worth having a look at the new Canon TX1.

Not the best at either, but if you really want both it seems to be in a niche all of its own.

It can zoom optically while shooting video.

Check out steve's review - he seemed to quite like it.
