Dear Husband took me to look at he Canon rebel XTi today. He was considering buying it for me for Christmas. I am glad he took me to see it. A DSLR is not for me. Buy the time i add a large zoom it is more camera than i want to handle.

I mainly use a camera for vacation shots outside. I print mostly 8 by 10's . A big zoom is essential.I do some indoor photography at family get together,Softball tournaments, wedding's etc... Must have image stabilization. I currently have a panasonic FZ20. I have gotten some great shots with it. Sounds like something inside of it is rattling now, so i thought it was time to look at a new camera. I have definatley gotten my moneys worth out of this one.

I have reading reviews and thought maybe the panasonic FZ50 might be a good choice? Any comments or suggestions?

If you're already familiar with the FZ series, the FZ50 may be just what you want for the type stuff you do, I would also take advantage of the dedicated hot shoe and buy a dedicated flash, like the Olympus FL50 or FL36. Here are some examples of shots taken with the FZ50 and Olympus FL50 flash, fitted with eitheran Omni-bounce or Lumisphere IIflash difussor..

Husband is wondering why i would want the FZ50 when the FZ18 is newer and has a longer zoom. Comparing the two any comments on them?

tinkerbelle-

You simply do not want the Panasonic FZ-18 because it does not have that very, very, necessary hotshoe that the Panasonic FZ-50 has as a standard item. This is a place where you should not compromise, if you want to use that great and very versitile Olympus FL-50 flash.

Hang in there for the FZ-50 or better yet go to the Olympus E-410 (that's my personal choice and it is great!) You can get the Olympus E-410, the kit lens (the Zuiko 14-42mm, a really great lens) and the Zuiko 40-150mm (get the newer and much more compact F 4.0 version) lenses for only a bit more than the Panasonic FZ-50 camera. I think it will fit your hands quite beautifully, it does mine!
