I am buying the Canon Rebel XT kit and I can not decide on another lens to buy. I like to take wildlife pictures. Animals and birds mostly. At this time I can not afford the Image Stabilizer but I would really like to have a tele or zoom lens. I've been told Canon lenses are the best. But what about Sigma and the others? I would also like something that would not be too heavy. Is there such a lens?

Thanks!

You need to give us an idea of your budget, without that we really can't help much.

But as a very quick guide to some fine lenses depending on how much money you have...

1. Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO DG Macro. ($220)
2. Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM ($550)
3. Sigma 100-300 f4 ($1100)
4. Canon 70-200 f4 L IS USM ($1100) + Canon 1.4TC ($275)
4. Canon 100-400 L IS USM f4-5.6 ($1400)

Thanks for your reply. I just purchased the Rebel XTI with the lens kit. I know people have said that the lens kits are not that good .

I really want the Canon 70-300 IS but I will have to put that off till after the holidays. Will I need another lens beside the 70-300? I will mainly be taking vacation pictures of scenery and wildlife. I also like to take pictures of birds.

I am a newbie when it comes to anything other than the point and shoot. As a beginner Ican practice with the 18-55 that comesthe camerafor awhile. Beside the manual that comes with the camera does anyone know of a good book for beginners?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
