My G6 is starting to show its age and act cranky.

Better picture quality is my number 1 aim, though I don't require RAW.
I also love the articulating LCD on the G6, and haven't seen many that still have that. The G9 doesn't.

I want an update that's preferably under $500 and while I hate to admit it, I've mostly used the G6 in Auto mode so I don't think I'm ready for the DSLRs.

I take extreme close-ups as well as landscapes, portraits, and pictures of critters in motion.

Are these good options?-
Code:
Canon PowerShot A650 IS
Canon PowerShot® S5 IS Digital Camera
Panasonic Lumix FZ50
Canon PowerShot A640
FinePix S9100
Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10
Olympus E3
Did I miss something? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I certainly think that the Canon Powershot A-650 is another camera to add to your list. Like you I have loved my Canon G-6. Although outdated it was a real performer.

I've noticed a few of the newest DSLRs are starting to have LiveView and a few even have an articulated LCD, like the

Code:
Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10

I'm starting to think I should wait on a 'big' camera purchase.

I just wonder if in the interim the Canon A series might hold an improvement
on the older Canon G6 that could tide me over for a bit. Again image quality
is my number 1 issue.

How do these 2-
Canon PowerShot A650 IS
Canon PowerShot A640

Rate image-wise?
Thanks.
