Hey guys/gals,

My wife has been wanting a Digital Slr for awhile now and I want to surprise her with one this Christmas. I know nothing about cameras, but she does. I had been looking at the Pentax k100d super with a 18-55mm lens and it looks like it may be a winner for her. Image stabilization, dust removal, etc. The largest prints she ever makes is 8x10,soI figure a 6.1 would be more than enough? The Olympus E-510 also caught my eye, mainly becauseit has two lenses compared to the one Pentax has. They both would cost me around 550.00,so that's not an issue. Just need to get some expert advice, because I'm lost,The majority of her shots(95%) are of the family and she will take some landscape pics on occasion. Thanks

Both cameras are capable of taking good pictures. I have the Pentax K100 and use it all the time, and have had no problems printing up to 8 x 10 (the largest I've ever printed, never tried anything bigger). The two lens kit of the Oly offers a greater focal range than the Pentax kit lens, but you can always add a longer Pentax lens later on, if she decides she needs it (she may not).

An important thing to consider when buying a camera, especially a dSLR, is how does it feel in the photographer's hands. The two cameras you are looking at are different sizes and she may prefer one over the other - has she handled both of them? That may end up being more important than how many pixels a camera has.

We were at the local Electronics store a few weeks ago and they had the K100D and she seemes to like it.I assume that the Super would basically feel the same/

Then it looks like you have your answer - the K100 Super is the same size as the K100. She'll have a great time with it (I do with mine).
