With Christmas just around the corner my Wife as said she will get me a new camera and I've found these two on the Internet but don't really know that much about digital camreas and would like some advice on which one may may be best.
I would like to use my new camera for all sorts of things IE inside outside still and moving pictures.
The two I've been looking at are the
Canon Power Shot S51S and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18
So which would you think is best or should I look at some thing else
Thankyou for any help and advice

Hello TCav
I would like a camera that I could use for all kinds of pictures from wild life to the family day out holidays and general use. Just about every thing. I know one camera may be good for one thing and another for oter things but I really would just like a general use camera I'm not a pro user or any thing like that but would just like to take good general pictures

Both cameras willwork well for the general uses you outline. The FZ18 has a wider focal length range (28mm-504mm equiv.) compared to the S5 (36mm-432mm equiv.) making it slightly more suitable for wide landscape vistas AND for wildlife. On the other hand the S5 has a hot shoe to mount an externally mounted flash potentially making it morecapable in varied indoor flash situations. Potential means you'd actually have to buy an external flash to realize that additional capability.

Thanks AC. It really dose look like a flip of the coin but the FZ18 may just be heading the race at the moment
