OK it seems that Mr_Saginaw and myself were both thinking small stuff, rings and such. However the advice still stands for the most part. Another question would be how you intend to present the necklaces in the photos? Are you just going to lay them out on a flat surface or do you intend to use a torso manikin? I was curious enough to do some looking and found manikins were cheaper than I thought they would be. They even make inflatable ones.

Another good way to display a necklace is to make a small "Stair step" covered with cloth.

Ok... here is the setup...

Canon S5 IS with 420EX bounced off ceiling...

piece of paper, 2 napkin rings and a necklace... (ok... not real long but bigger than a nickel! LOL)

Took less than 5 minutes to shoot... a minute or two in PS...

Picture is only 60KB... so it is very web friendly!! LOL

That is terrific, thanks much for this. Sorry for my ignorance but when you speak of bouncing the flash off of the ceiling do you mean that you separately yet symultaneously took the picture and engaged the flash but in different directions?

The 420EX fits on the S5's hot shoe... the head of the 420 tilt/swivels allowing you to aim the flash at different angles... so yes, I aimed the flash at the ceiling while the camera was pointed at the kitchen table..
