Hello everyone. I am in the market for a new camera and would like some advice. I currently have a p&s Fuji F700, and overall I have been pleased with it. However, I would like to upgrade.

I will be visiting Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon in a few months and the primary purpose of any new camera would be to take really nice pics while I am there. I am looking for something that has the ability to take wide shots as well as have a good optical zoom.

I also enjoytaking nature pics (flowers, birds, trees, small animals, beach, etc) around my city.

I am not concerned with the physical size of the camera. Also, I would like a camera that can grow with me as I learn more about photography. I am looking to spend around $500.

I did some initial research and I like the Panasonic FZ18 and the Fuji S8000fd.

Does anyone have an opinion on these two cameras for what I am looking to do? Also, feel free to make additional suggestions if there are other options that I may have overlooked.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum. Now might be the time to take a good look at Fuji's S-700. It is perhaps one of the best digicams out there. It is under $200 and has 10X optical zoom. The zoom will be very handy in the Grand Casnyon.

For a bit more more money you can also get the Kodak Z-712 which has 12X optical zoom and IS.
