Hi guys,

I am after a good compact camera with at least 6x optical zoom that can zoom while making a movie, I am having a hard time finding information about this on the camera reviews.

I read somewhere that most cameras don't have this feature, my old Fuji had it but the last one I got from Fuji didn't have it any more.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards
Paulo

Fuji S700/S5700 maybe?

...but perhaps not "compact" enough? It's not as small as Canon A series. But for me, it's small enough.

but...then again...I have Fuji S9600 and it's roughly as big as entry level DSLR and a lot heavier (almost twice) than S5700.

The Canon A720IS does it all for a very affordable price. Check out the review here and at DP Reviews. Could be the camera you're looking for and yes it zooms digitally while doing video and it does it quietly. I had one in my hands yesterday and I was quite impressed. If I had the spare $$ right now, I would be an owner.

LondonDragon,

The Canon S5IS gets very, very good reviews of its video mode - its 12X optical and can zoom while on video with no loss of focus and no deterioration in sound quality.

You can also take a quick snapshot while on video mode.

It can use the latest SDHC cards for more picture and video files. It will take up to 1GB of video in one clip or 1 hour, whichever comes first.

The OP wants a compact camera and the S5 is definitely not one of those. The maximum length for video on the S5 is 4 GB or 1 hour, whichever comes first.

True, the S5 is not compact. But I do love the video mode and the look and feel of the camera.
