I have an older Canon A95, and it takes good pics but I want to upgrade to a newer model since my lens keeps getting stuck. I was told to go with the ultra compact Sony DSC-W90 which was a piece of junk and took crummy pics even in Program mode. I went with the Canon A720 and the pics were ok, but the flash recycle time was like 30 seconds (although canon says 10 avg.). Whats a good one? Panasonic? Canon - which one? Should I wait until canon makes some new ones? Does Nikon make anything comparable?

What I'm looking for:
Price: $under $300?
Size: Med. to ultra compact
mp: 7.0 or better
optical: 4+
must have a manual mode also so I can take scenery pics.
take a lot of kid type and sporting pics and speed is important.
