Don't assume one body is better by looking at where they are made. Most consumer DSLR's are rolling off assembly lines outside Japan.

The S5is is more expensive because it's a better, more fully featuredcamera. It has an eyelevel finder, so it's very easy for someuse used to that option. It has a very nice flip-out LCD for variable angle shooting and it has a hot shoe for anyone interested in expanding their flash technology with dedicated units. Over a longer period of time as you learn more, you would be more pleased with the S5.
