Given a choice to buy one of these point and shoot digital cameras, which would you choose? Optical image stabilization is a desired feature for me as is small in size. I'm bound to this price range (~$180-$250).

Canon SD870IS (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...832&sr=1-4)

Canon Powershot SD1100IS (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...R&v=glance)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3S (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...S&v=glance)

Sony Cybershot DSCW90 (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cybershot...32&sr=1-22)

Canon SD850IS (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...832&sr=1-1)

I've read a lot of reviews for them, but they're (obviously) all mixed. Much thanks.

psycho-

I just went through the very same decision. I looked at the very same cameras and ended up with the SD-870IS. Why you might ask? Well a wide angle format was really important to me. Its 8mp, decidedly sharp, and produces great IQ.

All of the cameras on your list take nice looking pictures.

The Panasonic TZ3 requires a large pocket but it would be my first pick because of its wide angle lens, large, sharp LCD screen and 10x optical zoom.

My next pick would be the Canon SD870IS, then the Sony DSC-W90, followed by the Canon SD850IS and the Canon SD1100IS.

Do you have any priorities based on the kind of photos you anticipate taking? Any how pocketable must the camera be?

For example, if you want wide angle and a camera that easily fits in your pants pocket, then the Canon SD870IS is the way to go. If you want more zoom and can forego some "pocketability", then the Panny TZ3 is the way to go.

The Canon SD870IS reportedly makes ever-so-slightly softer images than some other cameras, most likely due to the concessions that needed to be made in the lens design. A very small price to pay to have wide angle in an ultracompact form.

The Canon SD850IS has a bit more reach than the others, except for the Panasonic.

Please be aware that the Canons and Panasonic use SD media, which is less costly and more universal that Sony's MS format.

All of the listed cameras are very good - there's not a loser in the bunch.

FWIW, I believe that the Panny represents the most versatility and best value of the group.

Thank you very much everybody! I guess "pocketability" is a bigger factor than all others simply because I just want a nice camera to take point-and-shoot pictures, nothing fancy. I'm now leaning towards the 870 IS now based on what you all have chimed. Again, thank you so much everybody!

Did you consider the new(er) Canon SD890IS and/or Canon SD790IS? I am going through the same thought process you are and keep going round and round among 870, 890, and 790.

The newer cameras are more expensive, andlikely not any better than the ones PsychoFan has mentioned.
