hello everyone,

I currently own a canon xti. and I'm going out of the country for 4 months and I'm looking for a small camera that takes great videoto take along with my xti. I know the canon takes great photos but iwould of course like to have video memories as well =)instead of buying a camcorderi figured a camera with good video would be more convenient for me since the canon is quite bulky.

I've searched around and found these to be interesting:

Panasonic TZ5, Nikon S10, Canon G9, Sony H3.

i think the panasonic is the smallest of the lot, maybe even the Nikon. What does everyone think? my price range is $400 and under. i know that the canon and sony shoot in RAW so that is a plus but I would like everyones opinion on what I should get. Whats important to me is the video but I would also like to take great photos with this camera if Im unable to take my canon.

Thanks everyone!

The TZ5 takes 720p video, far better than the VGA video of the others.

But it has a terriblyunderpowered flash. Is that what you really want? Personally,I don't want a flash that cannot get out more than 7 feet.

Well, then, aren't Canon and Sony both noted for having good video modes?

Broken-

In all honesty, I sincerely do not believe that you purchase any camera, just for its video clip potential.

i alrady have a canon but im looking for a SMALLER camera with great video so i can be able to record small clips of my travels.

the fact that the flash sucks really is a bummer for me, but what other optios do I have?

suggestions would be appreciated. =)

XoXoX-

The Canon G-9 which has RAW, and the Sony H-3 are your best options. If your focus is mostly on video clips, then you should take a good look at the Canon S-5 camera.

the s5 is actually way too bulky for me. im already lugging around the XTi so thats why I need something compact.

is the canon g9 or sony h3 THAT much bigger than the TZ3? i wish i could see comparison pictures

hmm.....

No, the G-9 and the H-3 are much smaller than the Canon S-5 camera

oh yes i know they are deifnitely smaller than the s5, what i wanted to compare was with the TZ5.

shooting in RAW i know gives the advantage of being able to retouch photos, but what about auto, is it that much harder to do editing with photos shot in auto using a program and wanting to add saturation or contrast for example?

also, is the shooting in HD at the 30fps in the 720p format is it hat much better quality than shooting in 640-480 at 30fps?
