Help!! I have a digital rebel already but looking for a smaller camera to carry with me places for just snapshots like field trips and at the beach. I was looking at the Canon 870IS and the Panasonic TZ5. I think I would like to have a longer optical zoom than a 3.0 but that looks standard on point & shoot cameras. I would likesomething that isdoesn't havelong shutter lag. Does anyone know of a camera that is a "happy medium" in zoom and around $300 MAX? :?

Well 3babiesmom-

Will you let an 8babiesmom help you?I have a Pansonic TZ-5 and really like it a lot. The 10X optical zoom is a real bonus, and it sells for LESS THAN $(US) 300.00.

So take a look at some TZ-5 photos, and another possibility for you the Sony H-3, which is also a 10X optical zoom camera that literally does magic with it great flash photos out to 20+ feet. Please take a good look.

Sarah Joyce, the real mom to 8, now grown children!

No photos of children yet as I have not been to see the grand children since I got the TZ-5. We liv in a small Oregon Community and this is our harbor that shelters both pleasure craft and a good portion of the dungeness crab fleet.

Here is a photo at our local Coast Guard Station.

And here is a house down by the harbor that the locals call: the Lighthouse House. It was built by a retired lighthouse keeper who wanted to make a statement, and to keep some of his memories alive.

Now here is a photo from the Sony H-3. I was able to stand back at 18 feet away from the so called "action" and get great photos, thanks to the 10X optical zoom.

3babiesmom-

I just came across another high value camera choice especially for children's snapshots. It is the Panasonic LK-8 (which steve just completed a detail professional review on). Both www.budig.com and www.beachcamera.com have it on sale for $149.00 with free shipping.

The camera has IS, 8mp, 5X optical zoom, and full automatic and manual controls making it a fully featured camera. I have attached a sample photo.
