I can't seem to decide between these similarily-priced Canon digicams.

The reason I want the A650 IS is because of the 12MP and mostly the 1024x768 video capture resolution which, even though can only be captured at 15 frames/second is worth a great deal to me because video is very important to me.

The reason I want the S5 IS is because it's a, from what I understand, a much better camera, since it's got the image quality of a dSLR camera and it's 'professional'. I think the 12x zoom makes up for the 4MP's that I'd be missing, but the video capture is what really bugs me.

Obviously waiting for the S7 IS, which will likely be 10MP and thus will also have the 1024x768 video capture resolution that I want, seems like the best option for me.. but what are the chances that it will come out, even in the next year?

I'd be very glad to recieve some of your input.

Thank You.

the s5 does not have the iq of a dslr. btw, if video is important to you, it's worth mentioning that the panasonic TZ5 shoots HD at 30 fps and i've read that the pics are pretty good.

Here are three reviews you may not have seen from Camera Labs;

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Pa..._DMC_TZ5_TZ15/ (TZ5)

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Ca...werShot_S5_IS/ (S5)

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Ca...e_images.shtml (Canon G9, but A650 shares the same lens, sensor, etc., except the A650 does not come with Canon RAW. There is a CHDK hack to provide RAW capability for the A650)

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page (CHDK)

You should be sure to look at the Gallery photos for each camera. The G9 photos were not shot in RAW, so they should give you a good idea of the A650 image quality)

Alright, wow.. the Z5S changed the whole picture for me. Thank you for that.

The only problem with it, is that it's not as good as the S5, in that it's not an SLR-like camera and it's not Canon. Also, I've read that the sound recording quality is pretty lousy, and from what I've heard, it seems to be true. If it is, then I won't buy the camera, and then I'll have to decide once again between the A650 and the S5.

The 12MP resolution really seems to shine in image comparisons, when examining tiny bits of a photo for quality, and while I know that the 12x stablized zoom would more than make up for the lack in capture resolution, I am quite taken with it.

So, I'm still not sure.
