She currently has a Canon A510 but wants to upgrade to a camera that will easily fit in her purse. Most of her pictures are of friends, indoor and outdoor, and a few landscapes on trips. I would guess most are taken on auto mode. Ido not think wide angle or manual controls are a priority. She is comfortable with Canon but is not opposed to another brand. I have been looking at the Canon SD1100IS, SD850, Fuji F50fd, and the Panasonic FS5. I would like to stay around $250.

Any opinions or other suggestions would be appreciated.

The Sony W120, W130 and W150 are good too.

Thanks for the reply Andy. I was not thinking about a Sony because she already has SD memory cards but the W120 and W150 look like very good options. Since I can't find a SD850 locally and don't have time to order one, I wiil probably get the Sony or Panasonic. I think either will suit her needs and are both recommended as one of the Best Ultra Compacts.

Although it uses xD cards Olympus makes some stylus cameras like the 820, 830 and 850 that are weather proof and also an SW1030 that can also use micro SD plus xDthat is freeze proof and can go under water. These maybe good cameras to look at if she is like most of the kids around here and drop theor camreras and cell phones etc.

Most of these cameras can be had for under $250 from newegg.com
