OK, so he has a Fuji FinePix A500. He's only 9. He got the camera when he was 7. He hasn't used it much because it's a battery hog! I hate it! He's taking a photography class starting in September and I really want to get him a nice little digital camera that doesn't eat through batteries. I'm a Nikon lover and am wondering about some of these little point and shoot Nikon's in the $150-$200 range. Do they suck batteries dry also? He just needs a good little camera that could blow to 8x10 with nice quality being maintained and being able to take pictures without worrying about the batteries dying within an hour or two. I have a Nikon D70s and I can shoot for weeks before the battery dies, but I realize there is a huge difference between my camera and a little point and shoot.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I don't know much about Nikon but Olympus makes a nice Stylus 820, 830 and 850 that has enough battery power to shot 200 shots or so ion its rechargeable battery. It also weatherproof.

Also the newer Fujis aren't so much a battery hog as the older ones. I use the S9100 but have heard good things about some of the smaller p&s Fujis.

Energizer E2 lithium AA batteries will last 7 times as long as regular AA alkalines. The Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable AA's are very long-lasting and will not lose their charge between uses.

also I have been using 2900MhA rechargeables in my Fuji lately and they really perform well. I got them from B&H however they have since stop carrying the ones I have.
