Hi guys,

I want to buy a new Ultra Zoom Cam, I have doubts in what to choose, could you help me?

The Sony DSC-H50 looks very interesting.

The Nikon Coolpix P80 has a bad aperture size: F2.8-4.5. Has the " Nikon" brand....

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 looks good.

And finnaly the Olympus SP570UZ, with incredible 20x zoom.

Did I forget someone ? What do you think???

Thanks!!!

You can compare some of the cameras you're interested in here:

You forgot the Fuji S series of cameras, e.g.
Fuji S700 (S5700)
Fuji S6000fd (S6500fd)
Fuji S8000fd / S8100fd
Fuji S9600
Fuji S1000fd
S100fs

I've got the S6500fd (UK model name for the S6000fd), and it's the mutts nuts

There are plenty of reviews for the FZ18, but not much for the newer ultra-zooms. Here's a new one for the Oly SP 570UZ;

Here's a page with many FZ18 review choices;

Here's a FZ18 review not listed above;

Here's photos taken with the FZ18;

Here's one for the SP570UZ;

Wow !!! thanks guys!

It´s really difficult to choose....

I´m not specialist and leaving the obvious, as the bad Nikon P80 aperture size, i´m not concluding yet...but I´m learning !!!!

I'm not sure you criticism of the Nikon is justified. The Oly 570UZ has the same aperture at max tele and the Pany FZ18 is only a third stop faster at f/4.2.

I've had the FZ18 (sold it simply due to lack of use), my wife has the Oly SP560 and I still have the very first Sony H series, the H1. Although the FZ18 is a great camera, I favored the H1 over it for its IQ. The Sony lens, believe it or not, pulls more details at 12x than the Leica at 16x (about the same FL since it starts at 28mm rather than the Sony 36mm) and for sure much more than the Leicaat 18x. The H1 also beats the SP560in most areas as far as IQ is concerned.When the H9 was released, I had high hopes for itbut after reading many reviews and seeinglots of images from it, I felt that it had some serious IQ issues. However, it appears that the H50 has corrected most of the problems, so I'd be inclined to choose it over the other options. I've already read some very negative comments about the P80 so just because it carries the Nikon brand, it does not necessarily mean it'sthe best ultra zoom out there. I'm not familiar with the Fuji line but the reviews I came across are not that great either. So,I'd suggest you eitherwait a bit for some feedback on theH50 or buy the FZ18 if you can't wait.That's my personal opinion on the matter.

If you have no camera then any of those listed will take better pictures than what you have. If you wait you're still not taking pictures.

Thanks guys, I´ll be in US in 2 weeks, until there I´ll wait more reviews....

I´m inclined to buy the H50, after read your tips and read a lot in net, the FZ18 and Fuji S8100fs looks like as good options too.

I have a Canon S80, it´s a very cool cam, but without a strong zoom.

I bought a adapter too, I double the zoom, but I want a UZ cam.
