Actually, when comparing lens for lens, and ignoring the used lens market, Sony's lenses are more expensive than Canon's. To be fair, some of Sony's best lenses are better than some of Canon's best lenses, but they are more expensive. And, in fact, some of the used Minolta Maxxum lenses command higher prices than Canon's new lenses. For instance, the Minolta 100mm f/2.0, 35mm f/2.0 and 28mm f/2.0 go on eBay for ~$900, ~$500, and ~$450 respectively. Canon's equivalent lenses, new,go for $410, $240, and $420 (albeit for an f/1.8 instead of an f/2.0) repectively.
