I've not a clue what to look for. The wife and I are going to Alaska next year and would like to take some movies of the sights and sounds. Relatively small, light, simple to use (dummies here). It would be good if it took standard batteries. Also, I'd kinda like to find 1 the is water resistant/proof. It will spend a fair amount of time in a boat after we get back.

The Sanyo Xacti E1is on Steve's Best Cameras list.

See the product page:

WOW!! Never saw anything like that in the stores I've been in. Is it as complicated as it looks? Photo dummy here.

From Steve's Conclusion:

"Bottom Line - Sanyo's Xacti VPC-E1 has crossed a major line, becoming one of the first fully submergible video cameras. Fitting in the palm of your hand, this very easy to use camera captures high quality 640x480 video ..." (emphasis mine.)

I don't own one; I just saw something on Steve's Best Cameras list that matched your criteria. There are multiple topics in the SanyoForum where they discuss the E1, so you might want to take a look.
