Here's the first picture I took with the new camera. It's the first photo worthy thing I could find once I had the battery charged up and the flash card formatted.

Congratulation on your purchase
Beside all the great advices you've been given so far, I also want to add with the Sony you also have the unique option of getting their AF 500mm f/8, the only Reflex autofocus lens in the industry!

-> What so great about this lens is it's the smallest and lightest 500mm around
Yes smaller and lighter than some 70-300mm (and also great price...)
I've been playing with a manual Nikon and just love it: http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...mp;forum_id=66

Congrats from me, too! Of course, I might be a bit biased since I shoot with a Sony A700 now. :-)

Make sure to visit our Konica Minolta / Sony Alpha dSLR Forum for tips on lenses and more.

Taking TCav's advice, I purchased the Tamron 70-300 DI lens this evening from Dell. The total price including tax was $182.96. It's on back order now, but they said it would be shipped no later than 9/22 from Tamron USA.I can't wait.

I took this picture with the 70 mm kit lens today. It lost some clarity when it was cropped, but since it was the first outing with the new camera, I'm satisfied with it.

That looks pretty good for a cropped photo. That Tamron does look like it's out of stock at most vendors right this minute, unless you wanted to go used on one.
