Hi to every one, my name is Neil and I am obviously very new to this. Could someone help me please. I have tried to change the recording pixels and compression to 2816 x 2112 and fine compression ( hope this low ) but after setting these it reverts back to factory setting next time I go to use it.
I am still trying to learn .
Thanks for any help

Actually, Large and Fine are the default values for those settings. If those are not the values for those settings when you turn it on, then perhaps you've inadvertently saved those settings using the Save Settings command on the Record menu.

Try setting those values again, and saving those settings.

See page 86 of your users manual: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/09000013...ISCUGad-EN.pdf

Thanks TCav.

I have the user guide and was working off page36/37 with the results as mentioned.
Looking at page 86 it probably is the answer as best it can be but I was hoping to have maximum for all my photos including those in Auto.

At least I know where to go should I choose a setting that will accomodate the higher pixels and lower compression.
Thanks for your help.

Since the Large and Fine settings are the defaults, you can reset all values to their defaults (see pg 34), but you'll lose any other settings you've saved.

Hi TCav ,

Thanks for not giving up, appreciate your efforts.
Considered your point about possible loss of other settings and decided to try once more to connect with Canon, failed first time.
More luck this time and the techno was very obliging and directed me to make the changes.
When I asked why they weren't in the user guide his replied he has wondered about that too but added that there is so much incorporated in the S3IS that some info is likely to be accidentally omitted.
Anyway I am now a happy chappy. Once again thanks for being generous with your time.
Cheers

For the benefit of others that might find this topic later, could you identify the method you used to restore those settings to their default values?

Not a problem
Basically read from page 36 of user guide and not misunderstand like I did when I restarted the camera, pressed on function and up came the original settings not what I had previously set.
Step 1. Power up camera ready to take photos
Step 2. Press function button
Step 3. You will see info on left side and on bottom of screen, Scroll down using the
Omni selector arrows untill the bottom shows Compression shapes as
follows" L , M1,M2,S,W"
Step 4. Using right arrow of Omni selector move to the desired compression setting
then press Set. The correct pixels will automatically be set as well.
Apparently when you restart your camera the original compression/ pixels will show when you press on function BUT it will be operating under whatever you set untill you decide to change.
