Hey guys, a friend linked me to these forums, when I told him I looking for a camera.

I decided I wanted to by a new camera. There is nothing in particular I plan to use it for, but hopefully can get more into photography and image editing. After some research have pretty much settled on the XSI.

My question is, when purchancing it should I go for one of these ebay deals that come with a package of stuff I could use, but not sure of the quality of lens and gear: http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-EOS-Digita...QQcmdZViewItem

Or just buy the camera at best buy/newegg and then buy better quality lens in the future. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16830120262

Thanks for the help guys.

http://www.pyxiscamera.com/

just a logo.

On their ebay website the company is listed as being located in NY.

On another forum the company was stated to be in Brooklyn.

Here is a link to view Brooklyn camera stores.

http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/

pyxis camera has not made Don Wiss's website as of yet, but if you view the pictures and follow the captions you can get a pretty good idea of how these companies come and go and change their names.

It is your $.

I personally would buy from somebody that was eager to let me see their showroom or warehouse. Newegg let one the computer forums into their major warehouse to take pictures and review their operations. It was educational. Don Wiss was allowed to take photos inside of B & H. This Pyris company seems just too eager to hide their identity, but like I said ... it is your money.

Do a Google search for the words: Brooklyn + Scam + Camera (or electronics). You will understand why an internet company should be avoided, especially an internet company located in the metro NY/NJ market unless you can verify their identity and operation.

In general it's a very bad idea to buy bundles off ebay that include 5 lenses, tripod, bag, etc, etc.

Chances are that most of it is rubbish. Looks like you're getting a good deal, but you're not.

Buy from a reputable retailer with a recognisable high-street presence. TANSTAAFL.

The only items in that kit worth having are the camera and the 50mm f/1.8 lens.

One of the very nice lenses for the XSi is the new stabilized 17-55 kit lens, and this doesn't include that.

Brooklyn is run by the Russian Mafia, and they are enjoying great success in the fields of credit card fraud and identity theft.

Look somewhere else.

Hi cwik, I do not know where your located, but you might want to drop in to a camera store (best buy, where ever) and pick up some different cameras. Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Olympus all make very good cameras, and they differ in various ways. Some are larger and heaver that others. They all have differing viewfinders (do you wear glasses?), all have very different menuing systems. So I would go in and actually hold the various models and see what you like and feels good in your hands. Picture wise, for what your going to be using it for - general photography, they all provide great pictures.

Where you buy it also, makes a difference. Online stores such as Beach Camera, B&H Photo, Androma are all very good. You can also find quite a few online vendors who you may never wish to do business with for a wide variety of reasons.

Good luck!

last time I checked, Brooklyn was a part of NY/NYC; unless something has changed but wasnt mentioned on the news.

Perhaps their blind governor signed some papers seperating Brooklyn from New York without knowing it.

The Russian run Brooklyn? Really?! And I thought it was the Italians(Howard Beach)! Some sections ifcourse are run by haitians(Flatbush), others by the hasidim(Boro Park, Crown Heights), others by Pakistanis(Kensington).

You could say that since the Asians over ran Bensonhurst, and the Italians have either fled or dropped dead, it is no longer an Italian hood.

Any time you're thinking about buying a tech item online, check http://www.resellerratings.com. Its listing for pyxis camera shows an excellent customer rating of 9.33 out of 10.
http://www.resellerratings.com/store...ra_pyxiscamera

However, I note that all the reviews have come in over a 2 month period and it's possible that some aren't legitimate. I urge you to read the reviews yourself before you decide one way or the other.

Oops, sorry, I should have said Brooklyn NY . When I think of NYC I am always thinking of Manhatten.
