I've only seen one measurement of it's AF so far (over at imaging-resource.com), and from preliminary testing, it looks like most of the entry level dSLR models can focus roughly twice as fast as the G1. Even using Live View, the Canon XSi outperforms it with both it's Contrast Detect and Phase Detect AF options (despite the mirror flipping using Phase Detect).

Dave Etchells uses pretty good lighting for the tests. So, it's probably going to be slower in many indoor environments. I haven't seen any tests comparing AF speed in more lighting conditions yet.

Well that's not what they say over there, and not what dpreview says.

From imaging resource:

I'd say it isn't as fast as a higher-end DSLR, but is certainly in the ballpark relative to entry-level models; exactly the part of the market the Panasonic G1 is aimed at.
