Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my camera (that I use for travel/family/event pics) and am looking for the following features:

1) Use an SD card as I have a phone that also uses these and so have cards already. Is this a silly reason? Are other cards better?

2) Is fast - both at starting up and between shots. The faster the better

3) Is well built - I'm clumsy and I'll keep it with me in my bag most of the time

4) Is easy to use - point and shoot, image stabilization, simple menu system.

5) Takes movies for as long as the card can hold. I don't understand why some camera's don't!

6) Is around the US$300 mark or less.

7) If the camera could be used as a webcam also that'd be a bonus! style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"

I've considered the underwater cameras (Olympus 1030/790 or the Pentax W60) but am not sure I'd use the feature for the added cost or if it's worth it even for just spills and rain. I've also been recommended the Cannon IXUS 80 but I don't know. All help would be much appreciated! I'm a little sad that such a great site as this doesn't have a better search feature to be able to search on all the fields. Anyway - please help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

These links may help:

Steve's 2008 Reviews (shows memory type, battery type, movie type/length and more)

Steve's Buying Guide (allows you to filter results by memory type, optical zoom amount and more).

Steve's Best Cameras List (contains models deemed to be a good value within their market niche).

Make sure to read the review conclusions for models you consider. It's the last page before the samples in each review. That's where you'll find more information on how well the camera works (speed of operation, image quality, movie quality, etc.).

Thanks. I've had a look through many reviews... I just don't know. I have been recommended the Panasonic DMC-TZ11GN-S but can't find a review - anyone know how good it is?

Steve has reviewed the TZ-4 - I think that's the same camera.

I'm looking to upgrade my camera (that I use for travel/family/event pics) and am looking for the following features (in no particular order):

1) Use an SD card as I have a phone that also uses these and so have cards already. Is this a silly reason? Are other cards better?

2) Is FAST - both at starting up and between shots. The faster the better

3) Is well built - I'm clumsy and I'll keep it with me in my bag most of the time

6) Is around the US$300 mark or less.

7) Has good auto-settings!

8) Looks good

9) I can zoom while taking movies

If the camera could be used as a webcam also that'd be a bonus!
please could someone suggest a camera?

Out of morbid curiosity - why did you start a new thread with the exact same question you asked in another thread from a day or so ago? I'm not trying to be mean at all - just curious.

I've combined them so that people don't duplicate advice.
